K-pop stars Nichkhun, Doo Joon leave Manila
Filipino fans were disappointed when they failed to bid adieu K-pop stars Nichkhun of 2PM and Doo Joon of BEAST at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 on February 24.
Security concerns forced the airport police to sneak in the two stars into the departure area through a different entrance to avoid the massive crowd that gathered outside the airport.
The fans had been waiting at the airport as early as 6PM hoping to get a glimpse of the two K-pop stars who, together with actress Song Ji-hyo and the TV crew of MBC’s “Danbi” program,” were scheduled to leave Manila for Incheon, South Korea, via Asiana Airlines flight 704 at 11:55 PM.
Pandemonium broke out when the bus carrying the stars and TV crew arrived at the departure area past 9 PM.
Hundreds of screaming fans rushed the vehicle as the driver attempted to park.
Airport police were caught in surprise, seemingly not realizing the massive popularity of the idols and were unable to control the massive crowd.
NAIA passengers were also surprised to see the large gathering of fans.
Fearing for the safety of the stars, the bus was ordered to speed down the exit ramp of the departure area instead of slowing down for the fans.
Airport police attempted to control the crowd when the bus made its second attempt to park but to no avail—they were simply outnumbered.
The pop stars were brought outside the NAIA and was then made to alight the bus and board a taxi. They were escorted into a different airport entrance.
Some airport officials blamed representatives from the Korean TV program for failing to coordinate with them regarding security concerns.
Nichkhun, Doo Joon and Song were in Manila to film for the Korean TV program “Danbi”. Among the places they visited were the Payatas dumpsite and the former US airbase in Clark, Pampanga.
