Nine-member K-pop group Girls Generation (aka SNSD) will be holding their Japanese debut with the release of their hit song “Genie” on Sept. 8. The song will be issued in Japanese and Korean versions along with a music video, photobook and trading card. The girls have been preparing for their debut in Japan, the world’s second largest music market after the U.S. Ahead of the single release, a DVD called “The New Beginning of Girls Generation” will be released on Aug. 11 in Japan. The DVD contains the music videos of the group’s hit songs “Gee,” “Oh,” “Genie,” “Run Devil Run,” “Into The New World” and “Kissing You.” Footage of Girls Generation’s first Asia tour is also included in the DVD release. Buying the DVD will entitle one to a ticket to the Girls Generation’s showcase which will be held at the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo, which can accommodate 10,000 people. This will be the first major event for the girls in Japan. SM Entertainment has signed up with Nayutawave Records, a division of Universal Music LLC, earlier this year to help Girls Generation with their career in Japan. The Japanese debut of Girls Generation comes on the celebration of their third year in the business. The group was launched in South Korea in 2007. In her message, Jessica, a member of Girls Generation, thanked fans for supporting them all these years. She said they will also be visible in South Korea even though they will be busy with their promotions in Japan.
